The research question
How do we protect data while it is being used?
As computation moves between the cloud, networks, and connected devices, sensitive data crosses more boundaries. Protecting that data requires attention to the environments in which it is processed, as well as the way it travels.
CONFIDENTIAL6G researched three connected areas: post-quantum cryptography, confidential computing, and confidential communication. The programme explored privacy in distributed environments, including collaborative and federated AI and machine learning.
Abstract Machines’ contribution
Engineering at
the working edge.
Abstract Machines served as technical manager, coordinating technical activities across the project. Our contribution also covered secure IoT integration, confidential computing at the edge, and the integration of cryptographic protocols into connected systems.
Technical coordination
Coordination of technical activities and project milestones across the research collaboration.
Privacy at the edge
Work on confidential computing and privacy-preserving protocols for connected devices and edge infrastructure.
Secure platforms
Platform development and the integration of cryptographic approaches for privacy-preserving applications.
Research in collaboration
Selected consortium partners.
Abstract Machines worked alongside these organisations in CONFIDENTIAL6G, bringing together expertise from industry and research.
Project context
A completed research collaboration.
The project ran from January 2023 to December 2025. The consortium website and European Commission project record provide further information about its research and published work.
