The research question
How can a service run where it is needed?
Connected services increasingly span cloud infrastructure, networks, and constrained devices. Deploying and coordinating workloads across those environments brings questions of portability, security, and control.
ELASTIC investigates service orchestration for 6G using WebAssembly, Function-as-a-Service, and edge computing. Its research includes executable isolation, confidential computing, and the observation of distributed workloads.
Abstract Machines’ contribution
Engineering at
the working edge.
Abstract Machines contributes to the design and development of lightweight orchestration, distributed access control, and execution on constrained devices. Our work connects the project’s research questions with experience in open-source IoT and edge infrastructure.
Lightweight orchestration
Leadership of Task 2.1, covering the design and development of FaaS orchestration, workload scheduling, and supervision.
Access and execution
Distributed access control policies and the assessment of WebAssembly execution, with exploration of eBPF/XDP networking.
Constrained environments
Leadership of Task 4.4, bringing OP-TEE experience to workload orchestration and exploring stronger WebAssembly support on embedded devices.
Research in collaboration
Selected consortium partners.
Abstract Machines works alongside these organisations in ELASTIC, bringing together expertise from industry and research.
Project context
An ongoing research programme.
The programme runs from March 2024 to February 2027. Its research objectives describe the work being pursued across the consortium.
